Akerman Grows Chicago Office with Healthcare Lawyer Jane McCahill

CHICAGO — LawFuel.com – Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced that Jane McCahill has joined the firm’s growing Chicago office as a partner in the Healthcare Practice Group. McCahill is the most recent member of a prestigious class of laterals to join Akerman’s new Chicago office. Reported as one of the four fastest-growing law firms in Chicago, Akerman has welcomed more than 27 lawyers from various firms since the office opened last February.

“Akerman clients seek the counsel of our national healthcare practice across a range of complex areas as they experience the increasing presence of government in the healthcare industry,” said Kirk Davis, chair of Akerman’s Healthcare Practice Group. “Jane is skilled at structuring deals in today’s heightened regulatory environment. Her knowledge and experience in healthcare compliance and transactional matters adds important depth to Akerman’s growing healthcare team.”

McCahill brings more than 30 years of experience representing healthcare providers on a broad range of corporate and compliance matters. She develops and implements practical solutions to complex regulatory and reimbursement challenges, and she handles corporate governance and regulatory compliance counseling, including internal investigations as well as governmental fraud and abuse investigations. She structures joint ventures and affiliations to meet regulatory requirements including anti-kickback and Stark anti-referral requirements. She also responds to certification, licensure, and accreditation surveys, and assists hospitals in addressing complaints in connection with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act. In addition, McCahill is a seasoned advisor on managed care arrangements and Medicare and Medicaid coverage and payment matters. She represents clinically integrated networks on formation and operational issues and advises on healthcare data privacy. McCahill also regularly represents healthcare systems, academic medical centers, hospitals, multispecialty medical groups and physicians, federally qualified health centers, and home health agencies.

McCahill is recognized as one of the leading healthcare lawyers in Illinois by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and as one of the top 10 healthcare lawyers in the state by Leading Lawyers Network. McCahill previously sat on the board of directors for the Illinois Association of Healthcare Lawyers. She also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Illinois within the Masters in Health Administration program.

McCahill is the second healthcare partner to join the Chicago team in the last six months, following Carolyn Metnick. They jointly enhance Akerman’s capabilities in corporate transactions, regulatory compliance, government investigations and other business issues for healthcare providers. Their practices also intersect with Paul Lillios in Chicago who represents companies in connection with healthcare fraud and abuse, business disputes and in white collar defense. Lillios previously served as a federal administrative law judge under the U.S. Social Security Administration and as a senior advisor on disability fraud at the Office of the Inspector General.
