LawFuel.com – Dechert lawyer Renzo Marchini assisted in obtaining a favorable opinion from the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) for long-time client British Retail Consortium in its dispute with MasterCard in relation to interchange fees.
Dechert has been advising the BRC in relation to the interchange fees for more than 20 years. The BRC made its initial complaint to the European Commission on antitrust grounds in 1992, and formal action against MasterCard followed. A decision finding antitrust violations was made by the European Commission in December 2007 against MasterCard and was upheld by the European General Court in May 2012.
