IP Lawyer Joins Law Firm's Memphis Office

Adams and Reese is pleased to announce that Shawn D. Sentilles has joined the firm’s Memphis office as Special Counsel and in the Special Business Services Practice Group. Sentilles has more than two decades of experience in intellectual property law, including litigation, patent and trademark prosecution, trade secret protection, clearance, licensing, and transactional due diligence.

Most recently, Sentilles served as the only in-house patent attorney for Wright Medical Technology, Inc., a multi-national, medical device manufacturer, and he helped Wright develop a large patent portfolio, which contributed to the divestiture of Wright’s hip and knee business to Arlington, Tennessee-based MicroPort Orthopedics in 2014.

“Shawn is a tremendous addition to our Intellectual Property team. His IP practice in general, and in particular his patent experience in the health care industry with a publicly-traded company, will definitely bolster our group,” said Ray Ferrera, Adams and Reese Intellectual Property and Technology Team Leader, and also Partner in Charge of the firm’s Houston Office.

Sentilles worked for Adams and Reese early in his career. As a member of the firm’s original patent group, he wrote the first patent ever to issue to a client of Adams and Reese.

Sentilles is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted in Tennessee and Louisiana. Sentilles has managed intellectual property portfolios and litigation worldwide, including in Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. He has successfully handled appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“We are excited about Shawn returning to Adams and Reese; he will be a great fit for our Memphis office, and his understanding of the challenges faced by device manufacturers and other life science-focused enterprises will give us an ability to represent clients in that field,” said Jay Campbell, Partner in Charge, Adams and Reese Memphis Office.
