Law Firm Schulte Roth & Zabel Announces New White Collar Litigation Lawyer Joins Firm

— Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP (“SRZ”) is pleased to announce that Seetha Ramachandran will join the firm on October 6, as special counsel in the Litigation Group. Resident in the firm’s New York office, Ms. Ramachandran will focus her practice on white-collar criminal defense and investigations, banking and securities enforcement as well as civil litigation.

Ms. Ramachandran will join SRZ from the U.S. Department of Justice, where she served as Deputy Chief of the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section, Criminal Division. She spent more than three years leading the Money Laundering and Bank Integrity Unit, which investigates and prosecutes complex money laundering and Bank Secrecy Act cases nationwide, targeting the role of financial institutions and financial services professionals in these schemes, and emerging methods of money laundering that utilize the Internet, other electronic platforms and virtual currencies, including bitcoin.

Before joining the DOJ Criminal Division, Ms. Ramachandran was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York for nearly six years, where she worked in the Asset Forfeiture, Major Crimes and Complex Frauds Units. She began her legal career as a clerk for the Honorable Richard J. Cardamone of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

“We are excited to have Seetha join the firm. She is an outstanding attorney and her wealth of experience investigating, prosecuting and supervising complex national and international financial cases will be a unique and tremendous asset to our clients,” said Martin L. Perschetz, co-chair of SRZ’s Litigation Group and a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he was Chief of the Major Crimes Unit.

Upon Ms. Ramachandran’s arrival, SRZ’s Litigation Group will include eight former Assistant U.S. Attorneys, a former trial attorney with the SEC Division of Enforcement and a former regulatory counsel for a major investment banking institution. With nearly 100 litigators based in the firm’s New York and Washington, D.C. offices, the group serves a wide range of local, national and international clients, including public and private corporations and their officers and directors, investment banking firms, brokerage firms, commercial banks, investment advisers, public accounting firms, insurance companies, law firms, partnerships, individuals and public interest organizations.

“Seetha will be a wonderful addition to our talented team of lawyers who have the highest levels of expertise representing financial institutions on sophisticated regulatory matters,” added Alan S. Waldenberg, chair of the firm’s Executive Committee and chair of the Tax Group. Since 1969, SRZ has advised financial institutions and their holding companies and investors on financial services law and regulation.

“I am delighted to join SRZ and look forward to working with the highly regarded lawyers in the Litigation Group as well as the firm’s other practice areas,” commented Ms. Ramachandran, who received her J.D. from Columbia Law School and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Brown University.
