London Hire For HFW Expands Firm's Asset Finance Practice

International law firm Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) continues to expand its asset finance practice with the recruitment of Stephen Marais who has joined the firm’s London office as Partner, effective 5 October 2015.

Stephen specialises in banking and asset finance and has extensive experience of acting on ship finance, commodity and trade finance, and aviation finance transactions. He has spent many years working on structured transactions, in particular sale and leaseback transactions, orphan trust arrangements, Islamic finance and export credit supported transactions.

Elinor Dautlich, head of the firm’s finance practice said: “We are delighted to welcome Stephen to the firm. His extensive experience of working on structured asset finance transactions across a number of our sectors of focus further enhances our service offering to clients.”

Stephen commented: “I am delighted to be joining HFW’s asset finance team. Since the global financial crisis of 2008 and the resulting loss of liquidity, the banking and finance sector has changed quite significantly. Traditional lenders have exited some sectors while new capital providers have made their presence felt. I am looking forward to helping the firm take advantage of the opportunities for further growth in this area.”

Stephen’s recruitment comes on the back of a number of other significant hires into the firm’s corporate and finance teams, including Partners Franck Bernauer and Jean-Marc Zampa in Paris, Tien Tai in Dubai, Haydn Dare in Indonesia, Leigh Borrello in Sydney and Shyamal Jeewoolall in Singapore.
