19 January 2012 - We live in a world where bad things happen all the time. Children are abandoned, wives get beaten and people get abused and hurt. They need help in going through all of this; they need someone to talk to. Of course, they could talk to a friend, but isn’t it better to speak to someone who has some experience with such trauma? And what happens to those whose life is threatened if they speak about their experience? It seems no one can help them more than a social worker.
The state of Louisiana has the highest rate of crimes against women and children reported throughout the United States of America. Child abandonment here is around 46% higher than the country average. There are 10% more reported domestic violence cases, but social workers say that the number of unreported incidents is much higher. All these people need someone to help them go through the hardness of their lives and to give them courage to start over with their lives. That is why, if you have a calling to help people, you should do some good and become a Louisiana licensed social worker.
It may be hard and the field of activity may require a lot of work to get into, but the fulfillment of helping others is greater, in my opinion. The first thing to consider is education. A license degree in the field from an authorized institution is just the beginning of the road you need to follow. Two more masters’ degrees are required and at least one of them should be in social working and mental health. After education, comes work experience. To have a better understanding of the needs of the people that ask for your help, you need to have some experience with the problem at cause. Al least three years of trauma counseling should be enough to grant you that sort of experience with abuse victims.
On the other hand, a licensed professional counselor in LA does not only deal with emotional trauma. Marriage counseling is also one of the many things professionals approach. Some say that dealing with married couples is sometimes more difficult than working with emotional trauma victims. Marriage counseling is a combination between relationship counseling and couple therapy. Relationship counseling supposes helping couples make an effort to recognize and to better manage or reconcile troublesome differences and repeating patterns of distress. Couple therapy is a related and different process. It may differ from relationship counseling in duration. In addition, counseling tends to be more 'here and now' and new coping strategies the outcome. Couples therapy is more about seemingly intractable problems with a relationship history, where emotions are the target and the agent of change.
