The Legal Jobs Board Do what you love and the money will follow is great in theory, but the truth of the matter is, certain jobs and fields simply pay more. The Bureau of Labor Statistics National Compensation Survey from June 2007 showed that the average earnings were $19.29 in June 2006. Among the five major occupational groups, average hourly earnings ranged from $11.31 for service workers to $31.45 for management, professional and other, related employees. The top-earning professional niches showed considerable range within each category. The top-earning categories among all sectors were*:

1. Chief Executives - $96.00
2. Surgeons - $88.00
3. Anesthesiologists - $81.00
4. Psychiatrists - $72.00
5. Dentists - $67.00
6. = Law Teachers - $66.00
6. = General Practitioners - $66.00
7. Business teachers - $60.00
8. Judges - $59.00
9.= Pediatricians - $58.00
9.= Engineering & architecture teachers - $58.00
10. Physics Teachers - $57.00
