Project Finance magazine has named six matters on which Latham & Watkins' attorneys advised as "Deals of the Year 2008." A testament to Latham's global project finance capabilities, the firm was cited for its roles on deals spanning multiple industry sectors and on three continents, including: "North American Renewables Deal of the Year" for advising Noble Environmental Power on the largest wind power financing in US history, a $777 million debt offering; "North American Acquisition Deal of the Year" for advising the lenders to Southwest Generation LLC in its $810 million acquisition of a 974MW contracted power portfolio; "North American Oil & Gas Deal of the Year" for advising the lenders to the $2.2 billion Southern Lights pipeline that will transport lighter grades of oil as diluent from the US Midwest to the oil sands region of Alberta, Canada; "Asia-Pacific Multi-source Deal of the Year" for advising the sponsors of Theun Hinboun Power Company's $608 million hydropower expansion project in Laos; "Asia-Pacific Telecoms Deal of the Year" for advising the senior lenders to PT Profesional Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Protelindo) in the financing of $525 million in senior debt and mezzanine facilities for the acquisition of wireless telecommunication towers and the refinancing of debt; and "Middle East Power Deal of the Year" for advising the project sponsors in Ras Girtas Power Company's $3.25 billion debt financing, marking the first time that the Qatari oil and gas model of inviting a large number of banks to commit on a final hold basis to eliminate syndication risk had been extended to the power market.
