ST. LOUIS – June 22, 2009 – LawFuel.com - Legal Newswire Service - The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP announced today that Don G. Lents has been re-elected as chairman. Lents first was elected to lead the firm in 2004. His new term commences in October and will run for five years. Lents is the third partner to serve as chairman since the role was instituted more than 35 years ago.

“It is a privilege to be elected by our partners for a second term,” Lents said. “Bryan Cave is fortunate to have great clients, strong practices and terrific people. Throughout our history, we have continued to develop the resources that allow us to provide our clients with advice and representation they need on an efficient, effective basis. I look forward to working with our colleagues to continue to build on those traditions.”

In Lents’ first year as chairman, the firm had 778 lawyers with revenues of $411 million. In 2008, revenues had grown to $502.5 million. Currently, Bryan Cave has more than 1,100 lawyers and other consulting professionals.

During his first term as chairman, Lents led the firm through a number of initiatives to increase its global presence. In 2005, the firm established Bryan Cave Strategies and Bryan Cave International Trade, which bolstered the firm’s governmental and international trade consulting and advisory capabilities. In 2007, Lents oversaw the opening of offices in Milan and Hamburg; in 2008, the firm expanded to Paris and San Francisco. At the end of 2008, Bryan Cave combined with Powell Goldstein in one of the largest combinations of the year. The move marked Bryan Cave’s entrance into the Atlanta, Dallas and Charlotte markets. It also significantly expanded the firm’s presence in Washington, D.C.

For a number of years prior to his election as chairman, Lents served as leader of the firm’s corporate practice and as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, where he focused on strategic planning. He played a key role in the 2002 combination of Bryan Cave and New York-based Robinson Silverman. As a young partner in 1982, Lents opened Bryan Cave’s London office and was its first managing partner.

In addition to his significant roles in firm management, Lents has been responsible for a number of important client relationships of the firm and has led substantial projects for those clients and others, including Emerson, Furniture Brands, Leggett & Platt, Anheuser-Busch, Novus International and Energizer.

Lents, who joined the firm following graduation from Harvard Law School in 1974, serves on the boards of a number of community organizations, including the United Way of Greater St. Louis, the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, Grand Center (where he previously chaired the board) and the Greater St. Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also has served as a regional director of the Harvard Alumni Association and as president of the Harvard Club of St. Louis.
Bryan Cave LLP (www.bryancave.com) has a diversified international legal practice. The firm represents a wide variety of business, financial, institutional and individual clients, including publicly held multinational corporations, large and mid-sized privately held companies, partnerships and emerging companies. Subsidiaries Strategies and Bryan Cave International Trade provide trade and customs consultancy and government relations and strategic counsel, respectively.
