27 November - LawFuel.com - Lawyer News - International law firm Eversheds has advised Pennant Walters and HSBC Infrastructure Fund on their joint venture project to construct and operate a wind farm in Maesgwyn, South Wales.

The wind farm will consist of 13 wind turbines, to be supplied by Alstom Power Limited, which will produce up to 26 megawatts of electricity and will supply clean energy to the equivalent of approximately 25,000 homes. Works are due for completion by late 2010 and the site is expected to become operational in early 2011. It is the first wind farm project for Pennant Walters whose main business is mining and heavy machinery leasing but which has diversified into renewable energy and general development (such as the new Ffos Las racecourse) in recent years.

Eversheds is advising on the construction, grid connection and power purchase, real estate, finance, joint venture and corporate aspects of the project. KPMG is also advising on the project and its team is being led by Simon Jones.

Eversheds' team is being led by Indraj Mangat and James Trafford. Indraj Mangat, partner at Eversheds comments:

"The renewable agenda has made huge strides over the past years and Maesgwyn is a great example of how we are now seeing plans truly leap from the drawing board and into construction. As a team, we’ve been focused on delivering to the brief in a tightly-managed and cohesive manner, utilising our renewables expertise whilst advising on the many diverse areas that a project like this brings."

Dale Hart, Managing Director of Pennant Walters, adds:

"We are delighted to be working with HSBC Infrastructure Fund on this project and to be advised by Eversheds and KPMG. This project has all the ingredients for success, particularly as it is backed by enthusiastic companies and professional advisers who are keen to continue to increase their activities in the renewable energy sector."

Eversheds' Clean Energy and Sustainability team is one of the largest international renewable and clean energy legal teams and advises a range of utilities, power companies, independent developers and private equity investors in the clean energy sector. The team has worked across all technologies in the sector including onshore and offshore wind, biomass, biofuels, waste-to-energy, hydro, wave and tidal, solar and carbon credit trading.
