A man is being held in connection with the 10-year-old murder of JonBenet Ramsey — a child beauty queen whose death became fodder for tabloids and the subject of books in the U.S.

Two law enforcement officials told CNN that authorities arrested an unidentified suspect in Bangkok, Thailand. The man is being held on unrelated sex charges.

Law enforcement officials from Boulder, Colo. were flying to Bangkok to present Thai authorities with documents in Ramsey’s slaying, officials in Washington told The Associated Press.

KUSA-TV in Denver said the suspect confessed to elements of the crime that were unknown to the general public.

The six-year-old Ramsey was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her family’s Boulder home on Boxing Day, 1996. Her parents came under the police “umbrella of suspicion” — but a grand jury issued no indictments and no arrests were made in the case.

The girl’s beauty pageant titles included Little Miss Colorado, Colorado State All-Star Kids Cover Girl and National Tiny Miss Beauty.

Patsy Ramsey, JonBenet’s mother, died in June after a recurrence of ovarian cancer.
