WASHINGTON, July 18, 2013 — Lake Erie Power Corporation (LEPC) has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC) seeking authorization to charge negotiated rates for electric transmission service on the proposed Lake Erie CleanPower Connector project (LECC).
Baker Botts L.L.P advised LEPC on this matter.
LECC will be an up to 2,000 MW High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) merchant transmission project that will interconnect power markets operated by PJM Interconnection, L.L.C., and the Independent Electricity System Operator of Ontario, Canada.
LEPC is the first merchant transmission developer to seek negotiated rate authority under FERC’s new policy statement governing the allocation of merchant transmission capacity. FERC issued its new policy on January 17, 2013.
