London, May 12, 2008 – Baker & McKenzie has appointed Marco Smith as its Director of Business Development – Europe and Middle East. Marco will be responsible for leading strategies to develop new clients and building relationships with existing clients to leverage the Firm’s geographic and practice reach, in line with its global strategy. He will lead a team of 15 professional staff, and will report to Kate Stonestreet, European Regional Operating Officer.
This is the second high profile management appointment made this month, following the announcement that Julia Hayhoe, formerly of Hildebrandt International, is set to join Baker & McKenzie as Head of Client Development for the London office.
Marco brings 17 years of business experience with his last 13 years spent in marketing consultancy, business development and client relationship management. He joins from DTZ plc, a commercial property advisor, where he was Group CRM and Business Development Director responsible for client development in EMEA, Asia Pacific and the Americas. Previously he was Business Development and Marketing Manager at Kaplan Financial.
Commenting on the appointment, Kate Stonestreet said: “Marco’s background in business development and client management in the professional services sector will add enormous value as we continually look to improve the level of service provided to clients, partnering with them to provide business solutions in response to complex legal needs. He will play a critical role in driving our strategic focus and cohesion among our 30 offices in Europe, the Middle East and the CIS.”
Marco earned his MBA from Henley Management College and graduated with a BA (hons) from the University of Manchester, having majored in Economics, Politics and History. He is a non-executive board member of the Professional Services Marketing Group (PSMG).
