Blakes Strengthens Intellectual Property Practice – Canada Law News

OTTAWA (May 6, 2008) – LawFuel – Legal Newswire Service – Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s leading business law firms, today announced that Paul Sharpe and Kent Daniels have joined its Intellectual Property Group in Ottawa.

Paul Sharpe’s domestic and international practice is primarily in the chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical fields. He began his career almost 20 years ago and specializes in chemical process engineering. A great deal of his work has focused on gas and oil processing. He has a degree in chemistry from Carleton University in Ottawa and has been a registered patent agent since 1994. He is a fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, a member of the Licensing Executives Society and the Chemical Institute of Canada. Mr. Sharpe is also a member of the board of directors of several Canadian companies.

Kent Daniels is a patent agent specializing in telecommunications, optics, computer-related technologies, and business methods patents. Over the past 10 years, he has played a leading role in securing international patent protection for cutting-edge technology developed by some of Canada’s pre-eminent high-technology companies. Kent has a degree in mechanical engineering from Carleton University in Ottawa and qualified as a patent agent in 1994. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.

Before coming to Blakes, Mr. Sharpe and Mr. Daniels were with Ogilvy Renault LLP in Ottawa.
