Hurricane Katrina displaced tens of thousands of children from their homes and schools. Cheri Lovre, director of Crisis Management Institute, will discuss the challenges schools face in integrating relocated students in a satellite workshop presented by Solution Tree (formerly National Educational Service) on Monday, October 3, 2005, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (CDT). There is no cost for the interactive broadcast. Viewers can downlink the presentation via satellite or log on to streaming video via a URL that will be posted on www.solution-tree.com.

Ms. Lovre will focus on two issues of integration: How schools, classrooms, teachers, administrators, and counselors can work to help all students handle the change and what schools need to be aware of as the school community copes with the change. She will explain how to help the school community as the initial rush of goodwill subsides and existing tensions are intensified by having more students, new staff members, and stretched resources. Ms. Lovre will also respond to questions emailed to her from the viewing audience.

Ms. Lovre is an established expert in the field of grief and trauma with over 30 years of experience. She has developed a philosophy and a specific approach toward the unique requirements of survivors of trauma. She was called on to assist in Littleton, Colorado following the tragedy at Columbine and she responded to a call from the chancellor of New York City Public Schools after 9/11, spending most of the following two years working with schools in the city. Following the tsunami in Asia, she spent time working with an orphanage in Sri Lanka.
