Mr. Facey will be co-head with Calvin S. Goldman, Q.C.
TORONTO (January 27, 2009) – Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s leading business law firms, today announced that Partner Brian Facey has been made Co-chair of its Competition, Antitrust & Foreign Investment Group in Canada. Mr. Facey will be co-head of the group with Cal Goldman, Q.C., a former head of the Canadian Competition Bureau.
Messrs. Goldman and Facey have built the Blakes competition practice into the pre-eminent Canadian practice in this field of law. It is repeatedly recognized as such in international rankings, including Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business and, most recently, the London-based GCR 100, which earlier this month noted that “…the Blakes team has used its well-rounded practice and enviable client roster to remain the pre-eminent competition practice in the country.” With the addition this month of two new partners, Randall Hofley and Debbie Salzberger, the Blakes competition practice has grown to comprise some 42 lawyers across Canada.
“Our group has grown in size and complexity over the past 10 years. Cal and Brian have been key forces in developing our leading competition law practice,” said Brock Gibson, Chair of Blakes.
It is expected that the move will allow Mr. Goldman to share with Mr. Facey the administrative responsibilities for the group, thereby allowing for even more focus on providing strategic guidance to clients involved in complex matters before the Competition Bureau.
