DLA Piper Expands Paris Office With Team Of Seven New Lawyers

New team includes four partners

Paris – DLA Piper today announced that it has recruited a team of seven lawyers from the Paris office of US law firm, Proskauer Rose. With the arrival of the new team, which includes tax partner Jean-Luc Cuadrado, litigation partners Emmanuelle Payrau-Sorba and Jean-Philippe Sorba, and competition lawyer, Marie Hindré-Guéguen, DLA Piper will significantly strengthen its capabilities in France.

Jean-Luc has more than 20 year’s experience as a tax lawyer and has spent most of his career practicing international tax in Paris. His areas of practice include transfer pricing, mergers, acquisitions, reorganisations and investment funds. Jean-Luc has significant experience of the pharmaceutical industry and is a member of the Paris Bar and the International Bar Association. Jean-Luc will be a member of DLA Piper’s strategic committee in Paris, working alongside Bruce Mee, Regional Managing Partner for France and Steven De Keyser, the Strategic Projects Director. The strategic committee is leading the expansion of DLA Piper’s Paris office.

Jean-Philippe is a litigation lawyer whose main areas of practice include public law, construction and regulatory matters. He specialises in providing strategic advice on public contracts and complex litigation, advising on a variety of disputes and contracts in France and abroad. He is also a member of the Paris Bar. Jean-Philippe will head the Litigation and Regulatory practice in Paris.

Emmanuelle’s area of practice includes liability and insurance litigation, particularly in the industrial, construction, engineering and telecoms sectors. Her expertise covers a broad range of liability issues related to contractors, manufacturing and directors. Emmanuelle is a member of the Paris Bar.

Marie main areas of practice include both French and EU competition and distribution law. She has particular expertise in antitrust, dawn raids, private enforcement and state aids. Marie has established a good reputation in the market, having regularly advised clients on litigation matters before the French and EU competition authorities and acted for foreign investors in the French market. Her other areas of expertise include merger filing, French regulations against restrictive practices and consumer law. Marie, who is a member of the Paris Bar, was previously an associate and joins DLA Piper as partner.

Three associates will join DLA Piper alongside the new partners. The arrival of associates, Karim Hamri, Xavier Guichaoua and Eric Métais, alongside the four new partners, marks a significant step in DLA Piper’s growth plans for the Paris office.

One of the primary objectives of DLA Piper in Paris is to strengthen the existing practice groups and build the depth of our expertise to enable us to better respond to our clients. In November we announced the arrival of two banking and finance partners, Veronique Collin and Clotilde Dirnat. Recently we also announced the appointment of partner Philippe de Guyenro and now with the arrival of the team from Proskauer Rose we will continue to build our ambitious growth plans for the office.

The team officially joined DLA Piper on 2 January 2007.
