The world’s biggest firm, DLA Piper, has taken a hit in Australia with three of its Sydney partners together with 20 lawyers moving to rival HWL Ebsworth to bolster that firm’s insurance law practice.
The partners, Jenne Tzavaras, Joanna Apostolopoulos and Ivan Medak, are mainly focused on workers compensation inusrance and other related work
In a statement, the new partners said HWL Ebsworth is “aligned culturally and strategically with our insurance practice”.
“This is a significant investment for our firm and one that will allow us to continue to broaden the range of services provided to our insurance and non-insurance clients,” said Juan Martinez, HWL Ebsworth managing partner.
He added: “This is a rare opportunity to secure the services of one of Australia’s premier specialist insurance teams.”
The joining of the team push the total number of insurance partners in HWL Ebsworth to 35.
These departures are not the only ones from DLA Piper’s Australian oepration, with two senior-level partners in Melbourne leaving last week to join Gilbert + Tobin, including former DLA Piper Australia chair and Asia Pacific banking and finance head Tony Holland.
