Justice Ruth Ginsberg is not going anywhere. She’s staying right where she wants to remain – on the Supreme Court bench.
“All I can say is that I am still here and likely to remain for a while,” Ginsburg said, responding to liberals who are urging her to retire so Obama can fill her spot with another like-minded justice.
Yahoo reports the 81-year-old Ginsburg said she looks to former Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, who retired at 82, as an example of why she should stay.
“I expect to stay at least that long,” Ginsburg said.
Ginsburg has repeatedly said she doesn’t plan to give up her spot on the nation’s highest court anytime soon. In March 2013, she said she’d continue to work “as long as I think I have the candlepower.”
In May of this year, Ginsburg admitted she expected pressure to step down.
“It’s expectable. I’m now the oldest judge on the court. I can’t say that I ignore it, but I have to do what seems to me to be right,” Ginsburg said.
