LawFuel.com – Google Adwords have come under close scrutiny, to say the least, with a Department of Justice non-prosecution agreement that shows Google has been involved in unlawful advertising and in breaching its own advertising policies.
The agreement follows Google’s $500 forfeiture – a major admission from the internet search giant and something that has caused closer examination of the way in which it uses Google Adwords. Google has admitted that it was aware of issues as far back as 2003 so far as the unlawful advertising through Google Adwords of Canadian pharmacies.
Google assisted the advertisers with their activities by providing optimization and other services, as well as adjusting or geo-targeting their advertisements so that they could circumvent Google Adwords policies requiring certification.
Google has always proclaimed that it works hard to ensure fair and ethical advertising and has come out strongly against unlawful and/or deceptive advertisements, but the case involving the Canadian pharmacies has caused some major issues for Google Adwords that will now need to be seriously addressed by Google Inc.
