WINSTON-SALEM (February 22) – LawFuel.com – Wake Forest University School of Law’s National Trial Team, coached by Kilpatrick Stockton Partner Danielle Williams, recently won the regional tournament and will advance to the championship rounds of the National Trial Competition in Dallas, Texas.
The National Trial Competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious mock trial competitions in the country. It is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and The Texas Young Lawyers Association. The top two teams from each of the 14 regional tournaments advance to the championship rounds.
Kilpatrick Stockton has a deep tradition of playing key roles on the powerhouse Wake Forest National Trial Team. Steve Berlin, Kilpatrick Stockton’s Winston-Salem Office Managing Partner, coached the team for many years, including team members who are now Kilpatrick Stockton Winston-Salem Office attorneys: Mark Boynton and Danielle Williams; and Atlanta-based Ty Lord. Their teams brought home regional tournament championships and placed in the championship rounds. Also, Kilpatrick Stockton attorney Chad Hansen – who now practices in the firm’s Winston-Salem office — participated on a University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill national trial team that won regionals.
This year, Wake Forest competed in Atlanta in the regional tournament hosted by Emory University School of Law. Twenty-four teams from 12 universities participated. Wake Forest faced Emory and the University of Georgia (2008 and 2009 regional winner) in the preliminary rounds, and defeated both University of North Carolina teams in the semi-final and final rounds to advance the championship rounds to be held later this year.
Trial team members include Aindrea Alderson, Nicole Dupre, Charlie Mellies, Aaron Berlin, Michael Capone, Kelly Beth Bowker, Katie Serfas, Luke MacDowell, and Amy Puckett. Stephanie Reese serves as the team’s assistant coach.
