Kilpatrick Stockton’s Rupert Barkoff and Chris Bussert Named Among the Nation’s Top Franchise Attorneys

ATLANTA (April 29) — Kilpatrick Stockton announced today that partners Rupert Barkoff and Chris Bussert were named Franchise Times 2010 Legal Eagles, representing the top 131 franchise attorneys in the US and Canada. Mr. Barkoff has been listed in this prestigious ranking every year since 2004, the first year Franchise Times published Legal Eagles.

This year more than 800 nominations – a record number — were submitted to Franchise Times to determine the select group of Legal Eagles, almost double the number of nominations received in 2009 which was double the 2008 number. According to the April 2010 issue of Franchise Times: “To make the list, attorneys were nominated by their peers and clients, plus meet the criteria of the Franchise Times editorial board. Legal Eagles are the attorneys speaking at industry events and legal symposiums, winning court cases and writing seamless contracts and documents.”

Mr. Barkoff has been practicing franchise, distribution and corporate law for 37 years. His franchise practice emphasizes solutions to registration and structuring issues and developing individual and collective solutions to franchisor-franchisee relationship problems. Mr. Barkoff was recognized as one of the country’s leading franchise attorneys by The Best Lawyers in America® in 2010 and the 10 years immediately preceding. He was one of only seven attorneys nationwide to receive the top ranking for franchise law in the 2009 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business for Franchising. Kilpatrick Stockton’s Franchise Team, chaired by Mr. Barkoff, is tied for third among the world’s top practices according to Chambers Global 2010. Mr. Barkoff was also named a 2008, 2009 and 2010 Georgia “Super Lawyer” in the areas of Franchise/Dealership by SuperLawyers magazine. He was named a “Most Highly Regarded Individual for Franchise” by The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers for 2006, ranking #9 globally. This peer-nominated distinction is based upon a comprehensive and independent survey of both general counsel and private practice attorneys worldwide.
