Former LA Sheriff Captain Pleads Guilty to Lying

LawFuel.com – William Thomas Carey, a former captain with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept., pleaded guilty this afternoon to one count of making false declarations for lying on witness stand last year during the federal trial of another LASD deputy. Carey, 57, who was the head of the LASD’s Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau, pleaded guilty to the felony charge before United States District Judge Percy Anderson.
 
Carey is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Anderson on January 25, at which time he will face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison.
 
Carey’s co-defendant, former Undersheriff Paul Tanaka, is scheduled to go on trial in this case (see http://go.usa.gov/36awQ) on November 3.
