Who Killed the Law Professor?

The murder mystery involving the shooting death of law professor and law blogger Dan Markel continues to arouse intrigue with numerous scenarios presenting themselves.

Professor Markel, a professor at Florida State University, was shot in his garage on July 18 and speculation has ranged from the professor’s writings to his representation of a rabbi.

There was also a 19 minute delay in am ambulance getting to him, despite the fact that an emergency call was made when a neighbour found him bleeding in his car.

The ABA Journal reports that the professor, involved himself in a custody battle with his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, another law professor at the university, was acting for an Orthodox rabbi who had been accused of kidnapping and beating Jewish men who had refused to grant their wives a Jewish divorce.

An internet post had told him that ‘all means necessary’ were needed in order to be ‘shutting people like YOU down’. When the professor replied that he felt threatened by this message, the person replied: ‘You’re worried about your home and private life being a target? What about your graduate’s homes and private lives? (Or lack thereof?) YOU’VE RUINED THEIR LIVES YOU FOOL.’

On PrawfsBlawg, another commentator had told him: ‘To put it charitably folks who have never even met you are inclined to see you as an obsessive, egomaniacal control freak’. In contrast, friends of his have described him as outgoing, enthusiastic and devoted to his children.
