And so Wachtell Lipton’s Michael Katzke left the prestigious firm and it’s massive per-profit ratings to teach psychology and sociology at Columbia University. Katzke, 48, says thoughts of a career switch began after his first wife died of cancer in 2000, shortly after he was promoted to partner. “When I came back to the law grind, I recognized it would be difficult for me to summon the passion and commitment over the long term,” he says, adding “there’s a different side to me than the corporate lawyer” he told the WSJ Law Blog.
