LONDON, 19 June 2007 – LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – Kaye Scholer LLP is delighted to announce that Daniel Lewin is to join the firm as the first dedicated tax partner in London.
Daniel’s practice covers the taxation of private investment funds as well as the more mainstream corporate and M&A areas of tax advice. Daniel has been an active contributor to hedge fund industry discussions for some time now, including most recently as part of a working group of tax practitioners involved in discussions with HM Revenue and Customs in relation to the revision of the UK “investment manager exemption” on behalf of the Alternative Investment Management Association.
The addition of Daniel enhances Kaye Scholer’s focus in London on investment funds, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and regulatory work by providing the necessary experience to deal with the relevant tax issues in these core areas of the firm’s work. Daniel is expected to join the firm before the end of July.
Daniel Lewin commented: “I am thrilled to be joining a firm of Kaye Scholer’s stature which is committed to excellence in and around the investment funds area. The firm has strong US- and German-based tax practices, which are important for clients in this area, and I am greatly looking forward to working with the other tax partners and to participating in the wide range of international deals which Kaye Scholer is involved in.”
Guilherme Brafman, London Managing Partner, commented: “Ever since we opened for business in London in early 2001, we have grown strategically by providing our international clients with a rounded offering within the principal areas of excellence of the London office. We have moved forward significantly in London in the last 12 months in terms of human capital, our new office location and a number of headline-catching deals. I am very happy to be able to welcome Daniel to the firm and I know that he will soon be adding value to our practice in the UK and beyond.”
Timothy Spangler, chair of the firm’s Investment Funds practice, commented: “Daniel possesses the in-depth knowledge of tax issues that hedge fund managers doing business in the UK require. Clients increasingly demand practical, multi-jurisdictional tax solutions for their funds and their firms. Daniel’s joining further demonstrates our commitment to serving our hedge fund and private equity clients on a global basis.”
