William “Bill” Earley, a partner at the California law firm Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP, was recently elected Board President of the San Diego/Hawaii chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Earley has been involved with the local LLS chapter for the past six years. During that time, he has participated in LLS’ Team In Training program, competing in numerous run, cycle and triathlon events. In 2010, he completed both Ironman New Zealand and San Diego’s Rock ‘N Roll marathon as fundraisers on behalf of the LLS. His efforts have raised more than $100,000 for the fight against blood cancer.
“Every 10 minutes, someone dies because of blood cancer,” Earley said. “The research funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is absolutely critical, and I sincerely hope that the time and money donated, as well as the efforts we are making, will help support the individuals and their families who are valiantly fighting blood cancer.”
As Board President, Earley will primarily dedicate his efforts to expanding the network of individuals involved with the LLS. Earley plans to set up a community advisory council consisting of hand-selected community leaders who will provide wisdom and guidance for LLS initiatives such as fundraising programs, stewardship, staff and volunteer training, and prospecting/networking for greater corporate involvement – particularly corporate wellness programs.
Earley added, “When you take just one person who is willing to give a little bit of him or herself, whether it is time, talents or treasure, and you join those efforts with others eager to make a similar contribution, the result is the power to make an impactful difference. It is my goal that in 2011 we can grow the LLS network to include many individuals who, by joining our cause, will magnify our efforts and help us make significant leaps in the battle against blood cancer.”
In 2010, the LLS San Diego/Hawaii Chapter distributed more than $90,000 to local patients. The chapter’s Team In Training program raised more than $2 million for cancer research and the Light The Night Walk set a new revenue record, raising $420,000. In addition, 265 local schools participated in the Pasta For Pennies Program, donating more than $350,000 in loose change.
To make a contribution of time, financial means or talent to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, please call Bill Earley at 619.699.2590 or email [email protected], or the local LLS office at 858.277.1800.
