29 March 2011 – Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP announced today that it has received Goodwill Industries of San Diego County’s (GISD) “Sutherland Award” for its many years of pro bono legal counseling, primarily through the Firm’s Labor & Employment practice. The Sutherland Award is given annually to a local business that has been a strong supporter of GISD.

Luce Forward has provided its pro bono services to GISD since the mid-1990s, including employment counsel on administrative claims with various state agencies, personnel matters, terminations, staffing, employee misconduct, wage and hour issues and customer complaints. Luce Forward attorneys Emily T. Gates, Elizabeth A. Alvarado and Nykia J. Wilson provided the most recent counseling.

“Goodwill Industries has provided so much to our communities for generations, and so many individuals have benefited from their services,” says Gates. “Luce Forward is proud and honored to have been given the opportunity to provide our services so that Goodwill can continue to make such a positive impact on our region.”

Gates and Firm partner Marie Burke Kenny, practice leader of Luce Forward’s Labor & Employment group, accepted the Sutherland Award at GISD’s Annual Board Meeting on Monday, March 21.

About Goodwill Industries of San Diego County

GISD’s mission is to get people with disabilities and other barriers to employment jobs by developing their skills and work habits through training and real work.
