Lowenstein Sandler Adds Marita A. Makinen as Member in Corporate Department
New York, NY, April 12, 2011– Lowenstein Sandler is bolstering its thriving New York corporate practice with the addition of mergers and acquisitions lawyer Marita A. Makinen as a Member of the Firm. Ms. Makinen joins Lowenstein from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where she was a partner. Her arrival follows hot on the heels of an eight-person IP team that joined Lowenstein’s Palo Alto office last week, and a seven-strong white collar group led by renowned litigator Ike Sorkin that joined Lowenstein in New York a few months ago.
Ms. Makinen, 43, represents public companies, activist investors and private equity sponsors in their public, private, hostile, joint venture and distressed company transactions. She also represents public companies in financing transactions, including PIPE and mezzanine debt investments, and on stock exchange and securities law compliance and disclosure matters.
“Marita is a terrific mergers and acquisitions lawyer,” said Gary Wingens, Lowenstein’s Chairman and CEO. “Having her as a part of our team will be a great asset to our clients across the board, particularly those in the technology space. And her choice to bring her practice here is a testament to the quality of the platform we provide to our lawyers at Lowenstein.”
“I joined Lowenstein to bring my mergers and acquisitions expertise to the fastest-growing, most exciting technology practice in the country,” said Ms. Makinen. “I look forward to working with Lowenstein’s talented lawyers, a few of whom I’ve had the pleasure to collaborate with during my career, and to introducing my clients, who will benefit from Lowenstein’s renowned client service, to my new colleagues.”
Ms. Makinen earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School and her B.A., cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Michigan State University. She is a member of 85 Broads and the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals.
