NEW ORLEANS- -Jan. 18, 2005 LAWFUEL – The Law News Network –Liskow & Lewis, a premier law firm in the Gulf South region, has opened a new office in Houston to better serve the needs of its energy industry clients in Texas.

The new Houston office is the firm’s first location to be established outside of Louisiana. Founded in 1935, Liskow & Lewis has an office with more than 70 attorneys in New Orleans and another office with more than 20 attorneys in Lafayette.

The firm’s Houston office, which opened this week, is located at Three Allen Center in downtown Houston (333 Clay Street, Suite 3485); 713-651-2900. Liskow & Lewis is sending five attorneys from its New Orleans office, four of whom are shareholders, to launch the new office in Houston.

“As the pre-eminent energy law firm in Louisiana, we have been encouraged by a number of our clients for quite some time to open an office in the Houston market, the focal point for the international oil and gas industry in the U.S.,” said Marilyn Maloney, shareholder in charge of Liskow & Lewis’ Houston office. “Our firm decided to wait until we were fully prepared to make a significant commitment to the Houston market before pushing forward with a new office. That time has now come, and we are excited about becoming active in the local business and legal communities.”

According to S. Gene Fendler, managing partner of Liskow & Lewis, the firm’s investment in the Houston market can be easily measured by examining the senior legal talent they are committing to the new office location. In addition to Ms. Maloney, a highly regarded transactional lawyer with 30 years of experience in a wide variety of major commercial transactions — including energy lending, energy acquisitions and divestitures, real estate, commercial lending and intellectual property — the firm’s other lawyers now in Houston include the following attorneys:

— William W. Pugh, a shareholder of the firm who has 25 years of experience drafting and negotiating energy and marine contracts, analyzing insurance-related disputes and litigating related matters;

— Robert L. Theriot, a shareholder with 18 years of experience handling business and energy litigation for some of the largest energy companies in the world;

— Jana L. Grauberger, a shareholder who has seven years of experience in oil and gas litigation, including royalty, severance tax and regulatory matters; and

— Michael A. Golemi, an associate in the firm with five years of experience as a litigator practicing in the areas of maritime, casualty, toxic tort, insurance coverage and products liability.

“With 85 years of combined legal experience, this team of highly gifted attorneys includes some of the very best lawyers in our entire firm, so it should be evident that we are making an aggressive move to establish a footprint in the Houston market,” said Mr. Fendler. “We think our ability to offer energy clients access to world-class legal services from senior attorneys with unsurpassed experience in their industry will be an attractive option in this market, particularly in light of the fact that our firm business model allows us to deliver those services on a more cost-efficient basis than most firms in Houston.”

According to Mr. Fendler, Liskow & Lewis is currently looking for additional high-quality legal talent to join the firm in its new Houston office.
