NEW YORK CITY, October 30, 2006 — LAWFUEL – Law News Network – The international law firm of Winston & Strawn LLP continued its New York expansion today with the announcement of the hiring of partner Carey Schreiber in its corporate group. Schreiber was most recently with Dewey Ballantine LLP.
Schreiber focuses his practice in bankruptcy matters, including corporate reorganization and refinancing, and debtors’ and creditors’ rights and remedies. He has counseled clients on both finance and corporate matters and also argued motions and participated in contested matters in federal courts in various jurisdictions, as well as New York state courts.
“Carey’s arrival enhances our existing corporate practice and is yet another important step towards our expansion goals in New York,” said Jonathan Goldstein, head of the firm’s New York office. “His broad experience in corporate reorganization and bankruptcy matters make him a valuable addition to the firm.”
Schreiber’s experience includes representation of debtors, creditors, purchasers, and other parties in many of the largest bankruptcy cases. Schreiber has represented lenders in loan transactions, workouts, analysis of collateral positions, and bankruptcy restructuring matters. He frequently represents clients with respect to the treatment of executory contracts and unexpired leases, the purchase and sale of assets at bankruptcy sales, mergers and acquisitions of troubled companies, bankruptcy claims trading, and the prosecution and defense of avoidance actions brought under the Bankruptcy Code. In particular, Schreiber has represented some of the largest creditors in the Northwest, Collins & Aikman and Enron Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. Schreiber has also represented a large public insurance company as a debtor in complex cross-border insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings.
Schreiber earned his juris doctorate cum laude from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Yeshiva University.
