LawFuel.com – Norton Rose Fulbright’s Toronto office hosted a reception for Women in Capital Markets (WCM) and Women in Mining Toronto Branch (WIM), featuring guest speaker Leslie O’Donoghue. The theme of the event was, “Corporate Social Responsibility: An Integrated Strategy.”
Leslie is the Executive Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy and Chief Risk Officer, Agrium Inc., a global supplier of agricultural products and services, and a director of Pembina Pipeline Corporation, an energy infrastructure company. Leslie spoke on how taking an integrated approach to risk management helps companies better prepare for unexpected events that can affect value, proxy fights, hostile take-over bids, environmental challenges, and more. She discussed the importance of good governance, and how critical it is to a company’s long-term success.
Leslie headed Agrium’s high-profile, eight-month proxy contest with activist hedge fund JANA Partners, which resulted in all of Agrium’s nominees being re-elected as directors of Agrium. Norton Rose Fulbright’s Canadian special situations team had the leading role in the successful defence of Agrium.
Leslie is the recipient of many awards and recognitions, including being listed as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100, by Women’s Executive Network (WXN) in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Earlier this year, Leslie was named to the United Nation’s Leadership Council. Also known as The Solutions Network, she is the only Canadian representative on the Council. The reception was facilitated by Norton Rose Fulbright’s Toronto partner Janne Duncan, who is the firm’s relationship partner for WCM and WIM.
