LawFuel.com – San Francisco and Silicon Valley – Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced today that Nagendra (“Nick”) Setty has joined the firm as a partner in its Intellectual Property Group. Mr. Setty will split his time between the firm’s San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices.
Mr. Setty is one of the nation’s leading patent trial lawyers. Over the past 20 years, he has served as lead counsel in more than 150 IP cases spanning a broad range of technologies, including software, electronics, semiconductor and life sciences, and has tried over 20 IP cases to verdict. Before joining Orrick, Mr. Setty served as co-chair of Sheppard Mullin’s intellectual property practice and, before that, was managing partner of Fish & Richardson’s Atlanta office, which he opened in 2006 and subsequently grew to over 30 lawyers.
“Nick is an extraordinary patent trial lawyer with a terrific track record of success,” said Neel Chatterjee, co-head of Orrick’s IP Group. “Adding Nick to our team will continue our efforts to remain a dominant force in high stakes IP disputes around the world. The best thing about this move, though, is that Nick fits squarely within our culture of collaboration and mutual respect. He is a true team player.”
“Adding a first chair IP litigator of Nick’s caliber further builds our strength in the technology sector,” added Mitch Zuklie, Orrick’s chairman. “IP is an increasingly important strategic focus for our public and emerging technology company clients, and we are delighted to add Nick to our very deep bench.”
Orrick’s Intellectual Property Group represents leading companies in high-stakes patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets, unfair competition and Internet liability disputes, as well as in United States Patent and Trademark Office interferences. The firm’s IP Group consists of over 150 lawyers around the world who have collectively tried over 30 patent cases over the last five years.
“I am honored to be joining one of the finest IP trial and appellate firms in the United States,” said Mr. Setty. “Orrick’s deep bench, tech sector focus and global reach offer an ideal match for my practice and the clients I represent. I’m excited to play an active role in growing the firm’s IP Group and building on the firm’s many notable client successes.”
Mr. Setty has served on the National Advisory Committee for the North American South Asian Bar Association and held various roles in the national IP bar, including co-chairing the annual Practising Law Institute’s Patent Litigation series for several years and serving as an editor for the American Bar Association’s IP publications. He received his J.D. from Emory University School of Law, a diploma in international law from Emmanuel College at Cambridge University and his B.S. in biology from Emory University.
Earlier this year, Orrick’s IP Group added David Case, the former head of White & Case’s Japan and Northern Asia IP and commercial litigation practices, to its Tokyo office.
