Philadelphia, PA – June 20, 2007 – LAWFUEL – The Attorney Newswire – Joseph V. Del Raso, a partner with Pepper Hamilton LLP and head of the firm’s Investment Management Practice Group, has been appointed a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. Members of the Commission are appointed by the President.
The Commission is composed of approximately 30 citizens who represent a broad range of backgrounds, interests and professions. Each year, the Commission selects a class of White House Fellows from as many as 1,000 applicants for the 11 to 19 fellowships.
During selection weekend, the Commission interviews finalists at a location near Washington, D.C., where members interview, interact with and observe the national finalists. The Commission then recommends those individuals it finds most qualified for the fellowship to the President for appointment as White House Fellows.
Mr. Del Raso, who is a member of Pepper Hamilton’s Executive Committee, concentrates his practice in securities, with a special emphasis on matters arising under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the related Investment Advisers Act of 1940. His work encompasses the representation of investment advisers, mutual funds, closed-end investment companies, unit investment trusts, hedge funds, offshore funds and publicly owned venture capital funds, usually organized as business development companies.
Active in the community, Mr. Del Raso sits on the boards of publicly held and private corporations. He is a member of the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including the National Italian American Foundation (which he also serves as executive vice president), the World Affairs Counsel of Philadelphia, and the American University of Rome (chairman of the board of trustees). He also is a member and vice chair of the board of consultors of the Villanova University School of Law and chair of the Center for Marketing and Public Policy Research at the Villanova School of Business. In June 2005, he was conferred the Order of Merit, honorary knighthood, by the Republic of Italy.
The White House Fellows Program (www.whitehouse.gov/fellows/), founded in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, offers exceptional young men and women first-hand experience working at the highest levels of the federal government. Fellows participate in an education program consisting of roundtable discussions with leaders from the private and public sectors, and study trips to examine U.S. policy in action. Following the Fellowship year, the Fellows repay the privilege by contributing to the country as better national leaders and public servants.
