Quinn Emanuel Named International Law Firm of the Year by The Lawyer

LONDON – June 27, 2011 – On June 21, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan was named International Firm of the Year by The Lawyer at an awards ceremony at The Grosvenor House in London. The award recognizes a law firm’s global presence, strong financials and ability to successfully serve an international client base. Quinn Emanuel was shortlisted for the award in May along with Debevoise & Plimpton, Gianni Origoni Grippo & Partners, Gleiss Lutz, Latham & Watkins and Sullivan & Cromwell. In addition, Quinn Emanuel’s Audrius Zakarauskas was shortlisted for Assistant Solicitor (Associate) of the Year.

The International Firm of the Year award criteria included:

Strategic vision tailored to an international client base
Consistent delivery of client service
Strong financial performance and growth
Client wins
Strong international management

“We have worked hard to strategically expand our client services in Europe and Asia” said John Quinn, the firm’s Managing Partner. “The firm’s conscious decision to sever ties with global financial institutions has allowed us to represent clients in claims against the world’s largest banks. By focusing on litigation and remaining free from major conflicts, we offer a unique solution for companies challenged by high-stakes financial litigation.”

Quinn Emanuel has 450 lawyers in 8 offices around the world. In less than three years since it launch, the London office has recruited a talented team of barristers and solicitors and is securing landmark victories in big ticket cases. In 2010 the firm opened its first Continental European office in Mannheim, Germany. The IP litigation practice is centered there, as Mannheim is home to the EU’s 2nd busiest patent courts. The firm’s Tokyo office has also expanded in the last year.

Quinn Emanuel has represented companies in more structured finance litigation than any other firm with law suits filed to date totaling £40bn. A transatlantic litigation practice has enabled the firm to handle major matters arising out of the credit crisis. In the U.S., the firm has developed the leading claimant sized financial products practice. The London practice is similarly focused on financial litigation, particularly when clients are adverse to major financial institutions.

The firm also has a market-leading IP litigation practice representing the following global companies in multiple disputes: IBM, SONY, Samsung, Google, Yahoo!, Symantec, Fox, Disney, Mattel, Seiko Epson, Micron, MediaTek, Johnson & Johnson, Genentech, Northrop-Grumman and Qualcomm. This year, Quinn Emanuel successfully defended cases in which patentees sought hundreds of billions of dollars in damages, enforced their clients’ patents against infringers, and prevailed in landmark appeals.

Quinn Emanuel works on a wide range of cases under creative fee arrangements, including fixed fees for each litigation phase, conditional fee arrangements and reduced fees with rewards for good results.
