Tampa Florida – LAWFUEL – Press Release Service – United States Attorney Paul I. Perez today announced that Randolph B. Maddox, a 42 year old resident of Palmetto, Florida, pleaded guilty to wrongful conversion of campaign funds. The maximum penalty Maddox faces is five years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100.
According to the plea agreement, in April of this year Maddox, was treasurer of the Committee to Elect Nancy Detert, a campaign committee formed to nominate and elect a candidate for the House of Representatives. Maddox wrongfully converted more than $90,000 in campaign funds and absconded with that money to South America.
The plea agreement also reflects that Maddox subsequently returned to the United States and returned the converted funds. The case was investigated by a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bob Mosakowski.
