The 9/11 attacks upon the Twin Towers in New York, combined with attack on the Pentagon by American Airlines Flight 77 and the flight of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The co-ordinated attacks changed the way America lived, forever. Nineteen terrorists were involved in the suicide attacks upon the four highjacked planes. The attacks upon the Twin Towers involved American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175.
Three buildings were collapsed in the attacks, with the South Tower collapsing at 10am and the North Tower 28 minutes later.
The attacks killed 2,996 people, which included the 19 hijackers on the flights and 2977 victimes, which also included 246 people on the airplanes that crashed in the four locations. At the Pentagon there were 125 deaths, including 55 military personnel and 2,606 in New York City both in the Twin Towers and on the ground.
The attacks of 9/11 also lead to major political and legal changes that altered the way America has operated in the decade since the attacks.
