The US government is claiming new co-operation among Homeland Security investigators is producing big breakthroughs in non-terrorist cases, including the recent death of 19 aliens in Texas.

It was money transfers and telephone calls made by victims and more than 50 witnesses who survived the incident led the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to Karla Patricia Chavez, 25, a Honduran citizen and legal U.S. resident.

The Feds believe Chavez led a smuggling ring that, for fees of $1,400 to $1,900, would take aliens across the Mexican border and then to destinations throughout the United States; co-conspirators were identified as far away as Albany, N.Y.
