Thursday, 21 December 2006 LAWFUEL – Australia Law & Business – Mr Christopher Philip Koch, formerly of Helensvale, Queensland has been arrested in Auckland, New Zealand by the New Zealand Police. The arrest of Mr Koch is in relation to charges resulting from an investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) commenced in 2001.
The charges allege that between 1996 and 2000 Mr Koch, a high profile motivational speaker, promoted an investment opportunity to dishonestly obtain property by deception and gain an advantage for himself. It is alleged that Mr Koch deceived sixteen investors of $1,387,467.82. ASIC understands Mr Koch left Australia in mid-2001. Mr Koch has been bailed in New Zealand pending extradition to Australia. ASIC has initiated proceedings to extradite Mr Koch to Australia. The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions is prosecuting the matter.
