Escobar - Better Than Breaking Bad? 2

Reports that Netflix’s new series, Narcos, the story of the major crime figure and head of the infamous Medellin Cartel could be better than even “Breaking Bad”, the award-winning, biggest, baddest and best crime show in recent years, some say.

The Netflix show will be “like nothing ever seen before,” according to Netflix executive Ted Sarandos.

Hollywood Reporter said the 10 episode order was from director Jose Padilha and Gaumont International Television, the latest original will bow in 2015. The project gets an official greenlight with the addition of actor Wagner Moura to star as Escobar. It reunites the actor with his Elite Squad director.

“Jose and Wagner together created one of the most sophisticated and chilling portraits of criminality and official corruption ever in their Elite Squad movies,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “Their version of the Escobar saga will be like nothing ever seen before.”

“Narcos” however is one of two projects on the Medellin boss with Benicio del Toro set to will portray the drug crime kingpin in “Paradise Lost.”

HuffPost report that last year, Colombian-American actor John Leguizamo was also cast as Escobar for the anticipated biopic “The King of Cocaine,” which has no release date as of yet. Leguizamo spent $15,000 of his own money to purchase a fat suit and prosthetic make-up to transform himself and secure the role.

Projects based on the life and crimes of Pablo Escobar have proved highly successful, especially in the drug lord’s native Colombia. In 2012, Caracol produced the historical series “Pablo Escobar: El Patrón Del Mal” despite initial controversy.
