LawFuel.com – The Financial Times reports that three major law firms based in the UK have confirmed the loss of about 450 law jobs with one firm, Eversheds, closing its Copenhagen office with the loss of 29 jobs, as well as streamlining its UK operation.
DLA is to close its Glagow office and transfer 10 partners to Edinburgh and will sell its insurance practice handling defendant cases and will overall lose around 100 jobs.
Allen & Overy has announced cuts to support staff rather than to lawyers
with 43 roles transferring to Belfast from Europe and the US. It has 2,500 support staff globally.
While the timing of the announcements is coincidental, all three firms are expected to complete their consultation and redundancy procedures by the end of the fiscal year.
“This is a continuing trend as revenue is flat-to-down across the London market and weak in Asia too,” noted Anthony May, of recruitment firm Hedley May.
