19th August 2004, Hong Kong LAWFUEL – The Net’s best legal news, law, law news, law article resources Jones Day is pleased to announce the appointment of Li Ying as Senior Chinese Law Adviser of the firm’s Hong Kong office. Li Ying joins the firm from the Hong Kong office of Allen & Overy, where he was a senior associate in the corporate department.

Li Ying’s practice focuses primarily on China-related M&A and reorganizations, covering a wide variety of industries, as well as the listing of PRC enterprises. During his time with Allen & Overy, Li Ying advised Compagnie Générale des Eaux on the US$890 million privatization of the wholly state-owned Shenzhen Water (Group) Company and DSM N.V. on the PRC aspects of its €1.85 billion global acquisition of Roche’s Vitamins and Fine Chemicals Division. In addition, he also participated in the US$3.4 billion IPO of China Life Insurance Company and the US$2.67 billion IPO of BOC Hong Kong (Holdings) Ltd.

In describing his reasons for joining Jones Day, Li Ying explained “Jones Day’s China corporate practice has been growing rapidly and offers me an exciting career opportunity.”

Commenting on Li Ying’s arrival, Barbara Mok, Partner-in-Charge of the Hong Kong office, said “The addition of Li Ying will significantly strengthen our non-contentious China practice, particularly in the area of mergers and acquisitions. Both our clients and our colleagues eagerly look forward to working with Li Ying.”

Li Ying holds an LL.B. and LL.M. from Peking University Law School as well as a J.D. from Harvard Law School. From 1987-1990, he was a lecturer on international law, international organizations and commercial law at the People’s University of China Law School and was a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School from 1990 – 1991, conducting research and lecturing on PRC and international law. He is admitted to practice law in China and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
