WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 28, 2006) LAWFUEL – Law News Network — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the arrival of Michael P. Socarras. Mr. Socarras joins the Firm’s Trial Department and will be based in the Washington, D.C. office. His practice is focused on U.S. and international litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution.

“Mike will be a great asset to our litigation team in D.C. and will undoubtedly be working with McDermott lawyers around the globe,” commented Margaret Warner, head of the Washington, D.C. trial practice.

In U.S. litigation, Mr. Socarras has represented clients as principal counsel in a wide range of complex commercial, intellectual property and regulatory disputes in federal and state courts. As international counsel, he has served as the lead counsel in numerous cases, arbitrations, and dispute negotiations in and outside the United States on behalf of U.S., Asian, European and Latin American clients. His international experience includes participating in numerous actions pending in courts abroad including class actions. He has also represented Asian and Latin American clients in disputes before international organizations including debarment proceedings before the sanctions committee of the World Bank.

“The international experience Mike brings will further bridge our U.S. litigation practice and our UK-based international dispute resolution practice,” said Jeffrey Stone, head of the Firm’s Trial Department. “Mike will be working directly with Juliet Blanch in our London office on dispute resolution matters while also navigating the regulatory arena on international litigation matters in D.C.”

Mr. Socarras earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1986 and his B.A., summa cum laude, in history and politics from Brandeis University in 1983. From 1981-1982, he studied at the London School of Economics. He served as law clerk to The Honorable James L. Buckley, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Mr. Socarras is a member of the American Bar Association and its Sections on Litigation and International Law; he is also past chair of the International Law Committee of the Missouri Bar (1999-2001).
