LAWFUEL – Asia Law & Business – Mallesons Stephen Jaques’ market-leading legal expertise in Asia and Australia has been re-affirmed by two independent surveys and its level of client service praised by another.

At International Financial Law Review’s 2007 Asian Awards, Mallesons was named Regional Law Firm of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. PLC Which lawyer? Yearbook 2007 ranked Mallesons as one of the top 50 law firms globally for the third year running. And at the 2007 BRW-St.George Client Choice Awards, the firm won Best Large Law Firm.

Mallesons’ Chief Executive Partner Robert Milliner said: “This consistent recognition is a great testament to the ongoing quality of our work and client service not only as against our Australian competitors but on a regional basis. We thank our clients for their integral role in our success. We are constantly striving to improve our understanding of their needs to ensure that they achieve their commercial outcomes and the best possible service from us.”

In describing Mallesons’ work over the past year, IFLR said: “In a market dominated by a relative status quo, Mallesons Stephen Jaques showed why it deserves to be ranked up amongst the elite in terms of innovation.”

The firm received further recognition by being named IFLR National Law Firm of the Year for Australia for the fifth year in a row. Mallesons also acted as lead lawyers for Dynasty Property Investment Limited on Dynasty Assets CMBS which was named IFLR’s Asian Securitisation Deal of the Year. The deal was China’s first cross-border commercial mortgage backed securitisation.

Robert Milliner commented: “The Dynasty Assets CMBS deal is a prime example of our capability and involvement in cutting edge cross border deals. In the last 12 months, we have also been involved in many other significant and complex transactions such as the Telstra T3 US$11.9 billion capital raising, CVC’s US$4.2 billion acquisition of a 50% stake in PBL Media, the US$3.4 billion Sydney Airport Refinancing and the US$2.1 billion Brisbane North-South Bypass Tunnel. It is deals like these and the way our talented and committed team execute them and provide outstanding client service which reinforces the firm’s reputation.”

In its Global 50 editorial, PLC Which lawyer? said: “Depth of practice, top legal talent and high-profile clients have secured Mallesons Stephen Jaques’ reputation as one of the pre-eminent Asia-Pacific law firms.”

Client comments in BRW magazine commended the firm’s lawyers for their: “Great depth of knowledge and experience in the practice areas engaged. Impressive understanding of our commercial operations and, as a result, able to add valuable input to transactions they have been involved with.”

Notes to editors

The International Financial Law Review (IFLR) Asian Awards reward innovation, quality and commitment to the development of legal services in Asia. The Regional Law Firm of the Year award recognises cross-border work carried out in the region across IFLR’s core practice areas. These areas include capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, project finance and securitisation. Emphasis is placed on legal complexity and innovation rather than deal sizes. Peer and client recommendations are taken into account to decide the winners.

The BRW-St.George Client Choice Awards recognise those professional service firms in Australia that are perceived as outstanding service providers by clients. Clients rate firms on a range of criteria including performance, value for money and innovation in the delivery of services. The winners are professional service firms that achieve consistently higher client ratings than their competitors. Rankings are generated from an independent assessment of clients’ ratings rather than a judging panel.
