Con Agra manufactured “Peter Pan” and “Great Value” brands possibly contaminated with Salmonella.
NASHVILLE, TN — April 4, 2007 – LAWFUEL – Class Actions News – The Tennessee law firm of Craft & Sheppard, P.L.C, announced that they have filed the first class action lawsuit claiming injury and damages from human ingestion of peanut butter. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to consumers not to eat certain jars of “Peter Pan” or “Great Value” brands peanut butter due to risk of contamination with Salmonella. Both brands were manufactured by Con Agra.
The FDA warning was based on an epidemiological study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the various state and local health agencies. They linked a number of cases of foodborne illnesses in numerous states to consumption of varying types of “Peter Pan” peanut butter. This report was provided to the FDA on February the 13th. The outbreak appears to be ongoing with the first consumer possibly becoming ill in August, 2006.
