NEW YORK, June 15, 2007– LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire – King & Spalding understands the importance of giving back on a local level. The firm, its employees and families annually donate hundreds of hours of time, talent, knowledge, expertise and other resources toward improving, enhancing and maintaining the quality of life in communities where they work, live and raise their children.
King & Spalding organized its first firm-wide community service day in 2005. Two years later, K&S Cares Day will find volunteers uniting to help children in crisis, to aid disadvantaged and homeless persons, and to revitalize an urban river.
The New York office will partner with Rebuilding Together NYC on June 16th to renovate the Family Crisis Center, located at New York Foundling Hospital. The Family Crisis Center provides a safe place for children in dire circumstances, such as escape from an abusive parent or the sudden illness of a parent or guardian that suddenly leaves a child temporarily without adult care.
On June 23rd, volunteers from the Atlanta office will be gardening, painting and sprucing up the grounds of The Frazer Center, a non-profit located in Druid Hills that provides developmental education to disabled children, and rehabilitation, life skills and vocational training to disabled adults.
On the same date, volunteers in Washington, DC will be teaming up with the Anacostia Watershed Society to clean-up a portion of the Anacostia River near Kenilworth Park, to restore and protect this “forgotten river” for the health and enjoyment of everyone in the watershed.
For the second consecutive year, the Houston office will serve lunch and host an ice cream social at the Star of Hope Emergency Shelter for Women & Families in downtown Houston. For nearly 100 years, the Star of Hope Mission has been providing refuge for homeless men, women and children in the Houston area.
On K&S Cares Day, the outreach efforts may serve different audiences, but the message remains the same: At King & Spalding, giving back is just part of business as usual.
