(NEW YORK, September 4, 2007) – LAWFUEL – The Law Firm Newswire – LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene, & MacRae LLP announced that Hugh McCormick has rejoined the firm as Of Counsel. McCormick joins from the global life reinsurance company Scottish Re Group Ltd., where he served as the Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and was a member of the Scottish Re Group Executive Committee.
Prior to joining Scottish Re, McCormick, 62, was a partner in LeBoeuf Lamb’s New York office, where he advised domestic and international insurance and reinsurance companies on tax, regulatory, and corporate matters arising in connection with mergers and acquisitions, demutualizations, and reinsurance transactions. He also represented insurers, intermediaries, fund managers, and buyers in the corporate-owned life insurance, bank-owned life insurance, and high net-worth variable life insurance and annuity markets.
While at Scottish Re, McCormick was involved in mergers and acquisitions, reinsurance transactions, the development of new reinsurance markets in Asia, domestic and international insurance regulatory matters, and associated projects. At both LeBoeuf, Lamb and Scottish Re he was involved in insurance securitization transactions. He has spoken on securitization and insurance regulation at conferences in the United States, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan. In 2006 he made a presentation on insurance securitization to the Annual Meeting of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors in Beijing, China.

From 1977 to 1981, McCormick was an attorney-advisor with the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service. He is a member of the International Insurance Society. From 2002 to 2004, he served as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Tax Conference, Inc. He is a contributing author of Insurance Industry Mergers and Acquisitions (Society of Actuaries, 2005) and International Life Insurance (Chancellor Publication, UK, 2002). For many years, he was a columnist of life insurance products for the Journal of Taxation of Investments, and was a regular speaker on the taxation of life insurance companies and their products at the Insurance Tax Conference.
