LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – The Supreme Court in Sydney has heard some anti-APEC protesters who want to march through the CBD on Saturday plan to vandalise shops and target the Cenotaph.
Police want the Supreme Court to ban the “Stop Bush Coalition” march on Saturday.
The police statement being discussed in court refers to several key buildings protesters allegedly plan to target on Martin Place: the Cenotaph, the Commonwealth Bank and the US Consulate.
It says business owners are concerned that their shopfronts will be smashed.
But Judge Michael Adams said vandalism is illegal and he will not assume protesters want to behave in an unlawful way.
He has described the police report as opaque.
