Takashi Suzuki, one of Japan’s top M&A and corporate finance lawyers, has joined the international law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP and its joint enterprise office, Kyo Sogo Law Offices, as a partner in the Corporate Practice Group.
The addition of Suzuki reflects Dorsey’s confidence in the continued long-term growth of business in Asia, as well as the economic restructuring occurring in Japan.
“We are very excited about the impressive talents and abilities that Mr. Suzuki brings to Dorsey,” said Christopher O’Brien, Partner–in-Charge of Dorsey’s Tokyo office. His depth and quality of experience will enable us to exceed the expectations of our clients doing business in Japan.”
Suzuki joins Dorsey from Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, a top Tokyo firm, where his practice focused on M&A, banking, corporate recovery, structured financing and real property related transactions. His clients have included top financial and corporate organizations in Japan, the United States and Europe.
Walter Mondale, Partner in Dorsey’s Asia Practice group, noted that Suzuki’s joining the firm “presents an exciting opportunity to provide our global clients with outstanding counsel and advice in Japan. Dorsey has a clearly defined strategy to grow the Tokyo and other Asian offices over the next several years to meet client demand.”
Suzuki said he is “looking forward to leveraging Dorsey’s strengths in M&A, corporate finance and restructuring with his experience in order to serve clients in Japan and globally.”
Suzuki received his LL.B from Waseda University in 1986 and his LL.M from the University of Cambridge in England in 1992. He is admitted to practice in Japan.
Dorsey’s Tokyo office will have over sixteen lawyers, including eight Japan licensed lawyers upon Suzuki joining the firm.
