PHOENIX – LAWFUEL – Legal Newswire – Isaac James Henderson, Jr., 28; Anthony Edwards, 21; and Christopher Andrew Lara, 22, who are criminal street gang members known as “Crips” from Los Angeles, have been sentenced to federal prison for a violent bank robbery that occurred in 2006 in Goodyear, Ariz.
On August 31, 2006, Edwards and Lara entered a Goodyear bank and ordered everyone to the floor. A bank teller was jabbed in the neck with a screwdriver and a customer was assaulted in the course of the robbery. The robbers stole money from the bank and customers then fled in a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe. Soon thereafter, police located the bandits. Henderson, the getaway driver, led police on a high-speed chase and caused numerous traffic accidents before he lost control of the stolen Tahoe and hit a tree. The Tahoe erupted in flames as the robbers bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Police were able to apprehend all of the bank robbers and recover most of the money before the getaway vehicle was gutted by the fire.
Edwards, who committed the assaults on the teller and customer in the bank, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roslyn O. Silver to 162 months in federal prison on September 10, 2007. On August 7, 2007, Henderson, the getaway driver, was sentenced by Judge Silver to 151 months in federal prison. Lara, who monitored the lobby and stole customers’ wallets during the robbery, was sentenced to 118 months in federal prison by Judge Silver on February 1, 2008.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Goodyear Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Alison S. Bachus, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
